New Comm Link and Meltdown betas!

Posted April 28, 2008 by Tapir

Chris recently released the beta two version of his Meltdown map, fixing bugs, tweaking the map a bit and adding various voice-overs to accompany the map's objectives.

Comm Link is a small 6v6/8v8 map made by zig-zag, intended for infantry-only competition play. The map is still in beta stage, but already looks very polished. There are quite a few servers running Comm Link, but there's bot support too, so you can practice the map on your own.

To download or to read more about the maps, go to the maps pages right here: Comm Link, Meltdown.

First custom maps released!

Posted April 06, 2008 by Salteh

Chris has just released Meltdown (beta1). Meltdown is an infantry only map, aimed at 6 versus 6 stopwatch mode. In this map we see the GDF trying to put an end to a major Strogg facility located in a once grand city.

In order to do this the GDF will have to complete three objectives. First there is the Strogg Shield Generator they have to destroy to gain access to the Strogg facility. Once this has been accomplished GDF have to hack the Strogg Security Controls to disable the Strogg shield protecting the energy cell. Finally GDF have to take an energy cell and take it to the reactor core to cause total meltdown.

You can read more about Meltdown on the ETQW Community forums, Chris' website, or our Meltdown page. If you want to skip all that and go straight to the download you can use the links on the Community forums release thread, or download Meltdown beta1 here.

Competition mod BETA and patch 1.5 BETA released!

Posted February 28, 2008 by Tapir

Splash Damage have released beta versions of the upcoming competition mod and patch 1.5. A public beta test phase is being used for 1.5 to avoid problems like the ones that slipped through patch 1.4's internal testing. Both the patch and the competition mod are still in Beta stages. This means there will be limited/no support from id Software, Splash Damage, or Activision.

The competition mod only works with ETQW 1.4, patch 1.5 is not backwards compatible with 1.4. If you install the 1.5 Beta patch you will only be able to play on 1.5 beta servers. If you want to play 1.5 we recommend backing up your existing ETQW installation directory before installing 1.5.

You can read all about the new patch and competition mod on the community site. Download pages for these files:

New tutorials

Two new articles about creating terrain models have been submitted to the site. The first is an article about how to create a simple terrain using blender and a heightmap. Having just a terrain model you cannot use in the editor isn't much fun, so the second article shows you how to assign a megatexture to your (.ASE) model.

We're always looking for new, awesome articles, guides and tutorials. Want to help? You can submit your own articles using the Submit article page.
